BOC Exam Scheduling: New Procedure Increases Security

As a candidate moves closer to the pivotal exam day on their path to becoming a certified Athletic Trainer (ATC®), one way to make the exam process go as smoothly as possible is to understand the critical scheduling step. The BOC continuously evaluates such processes to ensure ease of use and security.

As of the July/August 2020 exam window, Scantron implemented an additional step to increase security during the exam scheduling process. Specifically, the confirmation email candidates receive after scheduling their exam site/date/time will only include the candidate’s username, and not their password, eliminating access to personal log-in information by others. This additional security step was implemented July 14, 2020.

Following are the steps involved in scheduling once a candidate receives their Notice to Schedule (NTS).

Step 1

Candidates who have registered and paid for the upcoming exam window are emailed a NTS from Scantron (candidatesupport@scantron.com) the first day of the scheduling window.

Step 2

The NTS is sent to the candidate’s email address on file your BOC profile and will include a link and a unique username. The candidate will use this information to log into the Scantron website to schedule their exam site, date and time. Candidates will schedule a four-hour block for the exam. It is imperative that candidates arrive at the testing center at least 15 minutes before the testing appointment.

  • ARTI Certified Athletic Rehabilitation Therapists may schedule an exam in Ireland, Canada and United States.
  • University Camilo José Cela (UCJC) candidates may only schedule an exam in Spain, Canada or United States.
  • Graduates of a CAATE accredited athletic training program may only schedule an exam in Canada or the United States.
  • Any request to change an exam site may result in additional fees.

Step 3

After scheduling the exam, the candidate will receive a Scheduling Confirmation Notice (admission ticket) via email from Scantron. Candidates must retain their confirmation email and bring it on exam day. The ticket will include the following information:

  • Candidate name* - The legal first, last name and suffix as listed on a valid, government-issued photo ID (If name does not match exactly, candidate will not be admitted into the exam)
  • Exam name
  • Exam date
  • Reporting time
  • Name of the Scantron exam site
  • Address of the Scantron exam site (reporting location)
  • Email link for map to the Scantron exam site
  • General instructions
  • Prohibited items

*Candidates are required to present a valid, government-issued photo ID. The legal name on the ID and confirmation email must be an exact match (school IDs will not be accepted).
